Douglas County Huskies Boys Basketball Secures First Win of the Season
December 17, 2024

The Douglas County Huskies boys varsity basketball team clinched their first win of the season in a thrilling matchup against Lewis-Palmer on Tuesday, December 17. The Huskies edged out the Rangers 53-51 in a tightly contested game that showcased their resilience and determination.
The Huskies got off to a sluggish start, managing only two points in the first quarter and heading into halftime trailing 16-20. However, halftime adjustments sparked a significant turnaround. The Huskies’ offense found its rhythm in the second half, outscoring Lewis-Palmer 37-31 to secure the hard-fought victory.
Key contributors to the Huskies’ win included Vaughn Baldwin, Gavin Dale, and Alex Abramowitz, who each scored 10 points. Vaughn also secured a Double-Double by pulling down 10 rebounds to go along with his 10 points. Xavier Wynne and Roman Saiz added to the team effort with nine points apiece. The balanced scoring attack underscored the team’s cohesive performance.
“It was an all-around team win,” commented head coach Mike Gibbs. “We had to make some halftime adjustments to get the offense kick-started, but once we got the offense going, we became more efficient on both sides of the ball.”
The victory improves the Huskies’ record to 1-3 as they set their sights on building momentum. Next up, Douglas County will participate in a tournament in Pueblo from December 19-21. With three winnable games on the schedule, the Huskies have an opportunity to head into the holiday break with a winning record.
“We have three winnable games, but all the guys need to come to play and show the same intensity they had tonight,” added Coach Gibbs.
The Huskies will aim to carry the confidence and energy from Tuesday’s victory into the tournament as they look to continue their climb in the standings.
