Douglas County Boys Basketball Drops Third Straight, Falls to Cherry Creek 47-37

December 14, 2024

The Douglas County Huskies varsity boys basketball team battled hard but came up short Saturday night, dropping their third straight game to open the season. The Huskies took on Cherry Creek on December 14, showing defensive improvements but ultimately falling 47-37.

Douglas County kept the game competitive throughout, with seniors Vaughn and Gavin leading the charge offensively. Both players finished with 11 points, keeping the Huskies within striking distance for much of the contest. Despite a few promising runs, the team struggled to sustain momentum and convert opportunities on the offensive end.

Head Coach Mike Gibbs praised the team’s defensive effort after the game but acknowledged the challenges on offense.

“We showed a lot of improvement defensively tonight,” Coach Gibbs said. “Unfortunately, we weren’t able to convert enough on the offensive end of the court. We had a few good runs throughout the game, but were not able to put enough runs together to ever really take control of the game.”

The Huskies, now 0-3 to start the season, will look to turn things around and secure their first win on Tuesday, December 17, when they take on Lewis-Palmer. With a clear focus on building upon their defensive progress and improving offensive execution, Douglas County aims to bounce back and get in the win column.

Tip-off for Tuesday’s game is set for 7:00 p.m. at Lewis-Palmer High School.
